Boronizing provides superior abrasion and corrosion resistance over conventional heat treatments like carburizing, nitriding, and thermal sprays such as plasma and HVOF. Since boronizing does not rely on line of sight, all areas of the tool that see wear are protected.
The high hardness (75+ HRC equivalent) boronized zone provides unmatched resistance against abrasive wear encountered by these drilling components in service. The boronized zone is much harder than the sand causing the wear. The newly boronized tool can withstand the severe environment that used to destroy it.
Due to ongoing success with these downhole applications, VaporKote is seeking out new boronizing and aluminizing projects in shale oil developments where abrasion & corrosion present even more severe challenges to drilling and wastewater removal.
